Cuban art is a combination of African, European, and North American cultural art styles. The art features a combination of 20th century modernism with growing vanguardism movements. Vanguardian artists started with painters like Antonio Gattorno. His oil painting, titled The Siesta, was an inspiration to the surrealist Cuba. Other artists such as Eduardo Abela, Fidelio Ponce de Leon, and Carlos Enriquez Gomez were all responsible for the new Cuban nationalist movement at the start of the 20th century.

These early painters adapted European and Mexican art style interpretation to the Cuban people. They also found a sense of directness and idealization that resembled early Renaissance paintings. Many of the paintings also showed a modern primitivism art style. Paintings were filled with exotic, rural landscapes with simple people. Primitivism was also connected to a changing Cuban country. Themes of change, death, and transformation were all part of growing Cuban nationalism, and they were strongly depicted in early 20th century paintings.

After the Cuban revolution, many artists went into exile and submission. They became more isolated and were both anti-European and American. Cuba’s art forms were censored from the 1950s to the early 1980s. In the 1970s, the graduates of art schools began teaching younger students about different art forms. Their teachings created a platform in which students learned about expressive freedom. This new freedom of expression influenced the way art was portrayed. This time, art gave out a message and a new style. The new generation learned about individual freedom that spread into the next decade. By the 1980s, Cuban art became more natural and less politically influenced. This new expression of art was, in part, due to a newer post-revolutionary generation.

Different paintings like the ‘Volumen Uno’ and ‘Havana Bienal’ showed off personal expressionism and a new sense of freedom. In and after the 1980s, Cuba began seeing individuals who were seeking to express themselves in different ways. At the same time, painters began to feel the strong isolation that was all around them. The sculpture ‘Immediately Geographic’ showed a broken Cuba. It was clear that Cuba was still very repressed, and at times, paintings showed a Cuban country that was regressing back to the revolution.

Cuba has gone through different eras of art. The most common art forms were modernism, primitivism, and vanguardism. Each style not only showed expression, but a strong connection with Cuba’s rich and prosperous history.

When choosing artwork to decorate one’s home, bigger is oftentimes better! Oversized canvas prints light up a room, filling the walls with giant pieces that catch the eye. While petite pieces of artwork can also beautifully accent a home, oversized canvas prints bring a quality of boldness and assertion that smaller pieces simply cannot present.

Small canvas prints add subtle touches of beauty. They are meant to accentuate a room, adding a bit of elegance here, a dash of style there. Oversized canvas prints, on the other hand, become a room’s center of attention. A large piece of artwork instantly attracts the eye of whomever enters the room. Rarely do small canvas prints earn the compliments and inquiries of visitors; this is not to say that they are inferior to oversized canvas prints in any way, but their minimal size is more discreet, and oftentimes these small canvas prints simply go unnoticed. When a canvas print is vast and colossal, however, it is nearly impossible for a visitor to ignore.

Not only are oversized canvas prints sure attention-grabbers, they also allow a homeowner to decorate a room with ease. When decorating one’s walls with small pieces of artwork, one must use numerous pieces in order to fill up a space. These separate pieces must then be coordinated with each other and arranged on the wall in an attractive manner, a process that often proves difficult and frustrating for inexperienced designers. Oversized canvas prints greatly simplify the decoration of a wall. A single oversized canvas print is oftentimes sufficient to adorn an entire wall– they require none of the hassles involved with matching and organizing multiple pieces of artwork.

Oversized canvas prints are easily obtained over the Internet or at a local art store. Many stores and websites offer a wide variety of prints, enabling anyone to find the perfect print for his or her desired style and design. These prints are additionally far less expensive than handmade artwork. Oversized canvas prints provide all the ornamentation of a large painting but are more easily acquired and much more affordable.

Oversized canvas prints offer decorators an attractive and affordable design solution. Easy to choose and obtain, these giant prints light up a wall and draw plentiful compliments. After inserting an oversized canvas print into a room, homeowners will soon enjoy the acclaim of all people who come across this decoration.

The display of art is one of the biggest decorative tools that truly helps make a house feel like a home. It allows the homeowner to express himself in a unique and personal way, such that visitors and guests to get a sense of the host through the hand-picked selections that hang on the wall. Art can serve as a great conversation starter, whether it’s simply an accent piece or is the biggest attraction in a room.

Prints can easily enhance the aura and sense of just about any space that one can think of. The selection of the art that hangs on a wall can alter the entire mood of the room, and it is up to the purchaser to determine what he or she wants to convey in making that selection. For instance, the calming tone that a guest might want in an hotel is going to call for a far different large canvas art print than the inspirational tone that a coach may want in a team locker room.

One of the most ideal ways to buy art for a home or office is the purchase of large canvas art prints. The beauty of having art prints on canvas is that there will be no glass separating the admirer from the art itself, meaning that there’s no annoying glare of glass to distract from the image. Rather than having the print on a simple flat surface, the canvas gives the print a richness and texture that is incomparable. Additionally, caring for the art on canvas is extraordinarily easy: one needs to just lightly dust it with a duster or with a damp cloth.

The owner can exercise his own sense of style in choosing to present the large canvas art print either mounted or framed. In mounting it, one can choose whether the canvas should be stretched so that the print also covers the sides of the canvas or so that the four sides are simply white canvas. The sophistication of the print on canvas can often be enhanced further by adding brush strokes to the surface, making it more difficult to tell whether it is a print or the original.

Oil painting is the process of painting with pigments that are bound with a medium of drying oil — especially in early modern Europe, linseed oil. Often an oil such as linseed was boiled with a resin such as pine resin or even frankincense; these were called ‘varnishes’ and were prized for their body and gloss. Other oils occasionally used include poppyseed oil, walnut oil, and safflower oil. These oils confer various properties to the oil paint, such as less yellowing or different drying times. Certain differences are also visible in the sheen of the paints depending on the oil. Painters often use different oils in the same painting depending on specific pigments and effects desired. The paints themselves also develop a particular consistency depending on the medium.

Although oil paint was first used in western Afghanistan sometime between the fifth and ninth centuries, it did not gain popularity until the 15th century. Its practice may have migrated westward during the Middle Ages. Oil paint eventually became the principal medium used for creating artworks as its advantages became widely known. The transition began with Early Netherlandish painting in northern Europe, and by the height of the Renaissance oil painting techniques had almost completely replaced tempera paints in the majority of Europe.
